Michigan State Police High Speed Pursuit of Ford Fusion

While on patrol in Shiawassee County, I (Sergeant Berdan) responded to the area of the listed venue for a reported silver Ford Fusion that had fled from law enforcement in Clinton County Michigan. The Ford Fusion was reportedly east bound on I-69 at speeds well over 100 Miles Per Hour as it entered Shiawassee County. Shiawassee County Central Dispatch also broadcast over my in car computer that the registered owner of the Ford Fusion I requested Trooper Sheldon stay in the area of I-69 and the 119 Mile Marker to attempt a stop stick deployment if the driver of the Ford Fusion refused to stop for me. Trooper Sheldon and I were in full Michigan State Police uniforms and were driving fully marked Michigan State Police patrol vehicles. As the Ford Fusion passed by my location at the listed venue, I estimated the Ford Fusion’s speed at 100 plus Miles Per Hour. I initiated a vehicle pursuit when it was obvious that the driver of the Ford Fusion did not plan on stopping and it was my belief that the driver had an I (Sergeant Berdan) pursued the fleeing Ford Fusion to I-69 and Durand Road. After passing the Durand Road overpass and attempting to avoid stop sticks, the driver of the Ford Fusion rammed my patrol vehicle (35-53) and continued east bound on I-69. I didn’t allow the Ford Fusion to pass me at this point and forced the Ford Fusion down into the grassy median to slow the vehicles speed. As the Ford Fusion continued east bound in the grassy median, I watched as the driver took both hands off the steering wheel and dropped an object out his driver’s door window. I radioed my observation to Shiawassee County Central Dispatch. As the speed of the Ford Fusion slowed in the grassy median, I entered the grassy median in patrol vehicle 35-53 and performed a PIT maneuver on the Ford Fusion bringing the vehicle pursuit to a safe end. Deputy Burns and Trooper Sheldon assisted me in taking the driver and Edward Donte-Ray Hardy into custody. Trooper Schmerheim and his K9 were requested to the scene and located a loaded handgun that had been dropped from the suspect vehicle by the driver. Inside the Ford Fusion, 8.46 grams of cocaine was located and packaged for sale, 96.75 grams of marijuana was located and packaged for sale, a digital scale was located, and $378.00 cash was located. When his CCH was ran, Edward Donte-Ray Hardy was turned over to Trooper Black of the MSP Lansing Post for the original Flee & Elude incident in Clinton County. Edward Donte-Ray Hardy was lodged at the Clinton County Jail. Please see the below listed set of charges that will be sought in Shiawassee County. No injuries observed or reported.
