GSP Takes Over and Ends Pursuit of Dodge Challenger For Henry County

On Sunday, February 26, 2023, at approximately 1645 hours, Troop D Communications advised Post 1 Troopers, Henry County Police Officers were actively pursuing an orange Dodge Challenger traveling north on I-75 approaching mile marker 221. I, TFC Williams 819, was located at the split of I-75 and I- 675, ahead of the pursuit. I activated my emergency lights and siren to stage at the I-75 on ramp at mile marker 228 to help assist with the pursuit with my emergency lights still activated. Once I had visual on the orange Dodge Challenger approaching from my rear on the left shoulder along with Henry County Police Officer’s, I activated my siren and attempted to catch up to the orange Dodge Challenger after passing me and a Lake City patrol vehicle. I became the primary unit in the pursuit near mile marker 229. While the primary unit, I observed the driver driving in a reckless manner by traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes from left to right in and out of traffic. As the pursuit approached mile marker 235, I noticed the driver slowing down for motorcycles in the left lane. As the driver attempted to look for an avenue of escape, I performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T) maneuver on the vehicle by placing my driver's side front bumper on the passenger's side rear quarter panel of the Dodge Challenger. The Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T) maneuver caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise 180 degrees and come to an uncontrolled final rest in the 2 lane. After the vehicle came to an uncontrolled stop, the driver fled across I-75 on foot. The driver was caught by Lt. Carey and Deputy Davis with Clayton County Sheriff's Office on the right shoulder of the Interstate without incident. The driver was later identified by his name and date of birth as Nathan James Rogers with a date of birth of / /1999. Henry County Police Officer Pena placed Rogers in handcuffs and placed him in the passenger side rear of his patrol vehicle.
