Translating and Teaching Shobasakthi - Anushiya Ramaswamy and Vihanga Perera

Anushiya Ramaswamy, Professor of English, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is the translator of Tamil writer Shobasakthi's fictional work. Anushiya has translated the acclaimed "Gorilla" (2008), "Traitor" (2010) and "The MGR Murder Trial" (2014) into English. In this interview she speaks to academic and writer Vihanga Perera about the backstory of translating the work of one of the most renowned contemporary Tamil authors, and locates the Shobasakthi phenomenon in a Sri Lankan and Global Tamil literary intersection. This interview was conducted as a conjoined initiative of the New Ink Literary Forum, Colombo, and the Sri Lankan English Writers Report. The interview was conducted in October 2021 via Zoom.
