Dialogue that Reacts to Game Events | TCZ Devlog

Setting up a dialogue system in your game is an important part of development. However, a lot of tutorials only demonstrate a basic system designed to relay ONE set of NPC text. What if we want to have NPCs first check conditions - if the player is holding something, if they've completed a quest, if they've met the NPC before - and change the dialogue accordingly? In this video, I thought I'd show how I've structured my dialogue system so that it can check for such conditions. I also discuss how to save and update NPC-specific data using a ds_map, which can persist between rooms and (ultimately) be part of the player's save.
