My wife and I head on a hike through massive groves of sequoia trees in the Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park complex. This video was filmed in the midst of the SQF/Castle fire complex which was burning south of the park. The fire started in August and didn't reach 100% containment until January after burning 174,000 acres. The orange cast and low visibility were due to the smoke however, it got so bad the next day we decided to leave the park and head for Utah. THIS HIKE The Trail of the Sequoias and General Sherman hike is a 7.5 mile loop with a total of ~1500 ft. of elevation gain located in the Giant Forest section of the park. The hike starts at the Sherman Tree Trail main parking area and descends down to the largest tree in the world, General Sherman. From there the trail passes through groves of Sequoias on the Congress Trail before taking a turn onto the Circle Meadow Trail. At this point the crowds begin to drop off significantly. You'll pass several idyllic meadows which are filled with wildflowers in summer, a few small streams, an old cabin built into a fallen Sequoia (Tharp's Log) and then climb a hill for a view into the granite spires of the southern Sierra. On the way back you'll do the rest of the congress loop and rejoin the crowds near General Sherman. Black bears frequent the section of the trail after leaving the congress trail, if you see one please observe from a distance and do not chase them or get close.
