TINY Nintendo Switch ornament with a working screen!

I built a Nintendo Switch Christmas ornament, with a working 1.14” (2.9 cm) LCD screen! It’s about 1/5th scale, has an SD card for playing videos (actually animated gifs), working WiFi, and the “thumbsticks” are clickable. Incredible 240x135 resolution! We’re in a golden age of hobby electronics where this kind of project is doable from the comfort of your own home with free tools and relatively cheap parts! 3D CAD was done in Fusion 360, PCB design was done with KiCad, and firmware was made with Arduino and PlatformIO. Firmware is available for reference here: https://github.com/scottbez1/SwitchOr... If you’d like to support my channel, share the video with your friends and subscribe for more cool projects! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Note: this ornament is not for sale, nor will the designs be made available (other than the generic reference code and schematic); this was just a fun side project that I documented to encourage others to learn more about STEM and build cool things. 🛒 Related hobby electronics items (affiliate links help support the channel, at no cost to you): Solder paste - Chipquick NC191AX15: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/d... (Works great. yes, it's leaded, so don't eat it!) No-clean gel flux - Chipquick NC191: https://amzn.to/3KP5LMk (must-have for surface mount solder - I used this when soldering the LCD cable and tiny buttons in the video) Highly recommended soldering iron - TS100: https://amzn.to/3Olswd0 (I use the Ralim/IronOS firmware, and built a barrel jack extension cable with flexible silicone-insulated dual-core wire for better maneuverability) Solder - kester 60/40: https://amzn.to/3jJLdbZ (Probably overpriced. I'm very happy with this, and it was a huge step up from the cheap junk I used previously, but Kester has nearly doubled the price since I bought it, so I don't know if I'd truly recommend it anymore) Similar tiny LCD module - 1.14" 240x135: https://amzn.to/3vhd8W0 (I bought the LCD bare, but this module should be easier to prototype with on a breadboard) More info on reflow soldering at home in this classic SparkFun article: https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/59 🕑 Chapters: 0:00 Background 0:31 Part 1: Design 1:50 Part 2: Electrical Design 2:27 Part 3: Electrical Assembly 5:17 Part 4: 3d Print Assembly 5:55 Final Ornament 🎄 Ornaments featured at the beginning of the video: "Holiday Ornament PCB” by Electron Solutions LLC https://www.tindie.com/products/es/ho... “PCB3” by Brian Lough http://blough.ie/pcb3/ “Xmas Fireplace Ornament PCB” by Tom Archer http://www.tomarcher.co.uk/2018/12/10... 🎶 Music: "Wish Background" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...
