EUROCONTROL Stakeholder Forum on GNSS

This technical webinar in our Stakeholder Forum series will cover whether aviation can continue to rely on satellite navigation? Learn more here: https://www.eurocontrol.int/eurocontr... This technical webinar in our Stakeholder Forum series explored the growing problem of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) with GNSS. RFI is starting to pose a real threat to network efficiency, cost-effectiveness and safety in many parts of the world, with 38.5% of European en-route traffic operating through affected regions, and jamming affecting civil aviation up to 300 km away. Moderated by EUROCONTROL's Gary Berz, the expert leading GNSS radio frequency interference mitigation efforts at the Agency and responsible for radio spectrum, the webinar drew on the experience of fellow specialists from the airline, air navigation service provider, military and telecommunications domains: IATA's Noppadol Pringvanich, Cyprus ANS's Nicos Nicolaou, NATO's Jean-Philippe Sauley, and ITU's Jorge Ciccorossi. The webinar explored the growing problem - which EUROCONTROL recently publicised in its latest Think Paper on RFI - that RFI by State and non-State actors is increasingly compromising the effectiveness of satellite navigation for aviation, causing pilots & controllers in affected regions increasingly to lose faith in GNSS. The panellists emphasised the pressing need for all actors to work hard on the technical, operational and political levels to mitigate the threat. The recording of our webinar, our latest think paper and the panellist presentations are available to view and download at the top of this page.
