Lets take a look at some ways you can help protect yourself when you're online: 1) make a list of all your online accounts Every time you sign up to a website add it to a list so that you can keep track of everything you are signed up to and spot unusual activity early enough to take preventative action. 2) Use strong passwords Pick a password that you can easily remember that can't be easily guessed or hacked. Personally, I avoid passwords that consist mostly of numbers because a lot of hacking programs can easily crack them. 3) Don't save your payment details on shopping sites To me it is worth having to re-type card details when shopping online if it means keeping your details safe. If you use Paypal to order online, make sure you use a strong password to protect it. 4) Don't put your real location & details on social media It might be tempting, but you don't have to put all of your details on your social media profiles. hackers can use them to create a map of where you live, guess your wealth and when you are most likely to be vulnerable. 5) Use the same logic for your photos It's the same rule for your photos; anything someone can use to harm you shouldn't be publicly visible. Set your photo albums to private where possible. 6) Your email accounts should be locked and bolted If hackers get access to your email accounts, they can easily use it to reset your passwords and gain access to your paypal, shopping sites, or worse, your online banking. Finally – invest in a unified threat management system (UTM) to protect your network If you run a business and you want to protect your users, you should have a unified threat management system in place. If you have any more tips for staying safe online, let me know in the comments!
