Using a timer to increase your speed/decrease time CAN be applicable but primarily for shooters practicing for competition or "racing" themselves with mechanical functioning of the gun. The reality of your draw speed, or shooting speed, (as told by a shot timer) does not apply to true defensive shooting training. In the context of a training class, someone will be the fastest and someone else the slowest. Speed is a subjectively measured factor of shooting. Finding security in low timer readings does not mean you are "faster than the next guy" in a defensive situation. While this theory begins to branch into brain functioning and recognition, it is important to always remember that we should be shooting against our own abilities. The speed of others around you does not matter. That being said, you need to shoot at a speed that you can hit your intended target (without justifying misses) while applying the least amount of skill necessary to produce said shots.
