I've been wanting to do some Chicago for a while and have had a few songs in my Pro Tools session to jam along with, all from the Chicago 16 & 17 albums (that's the era I'm most familiar with). This is one of my brother's favourites, so it's gotten the go ahead. He was instrumental in seeking out 'new' music for us to listen to and was great at recognising names on the liner notes to expand his music collection. Essentially, if something is produced by David Foster and features the Toto guys playing and writing, then it will be guaranteed to have those signature AOR/Yacht Rock/West Coast elements of great instrumentation, progressions, melodies, production etc. Pair that with a band like Chicago, and those elements get kicked into overdrive! This song is a great example of that 'fusion' as it was written by Jay Gruska and Joseph Williams (check out the demo!!!) and I'm sure it's a Lukather solo but could also feature Michael Landau on the track too. And of course you have Cetera leading the vocals on this one and for myself, he will always be the voice of Chicago (Scheff has some killer songs too though). I hope to do a lot more Chicago as there's plenty of songs with interesting guitar in them, but maybe I should also learn some keyboard too for the ballads... :P Transcription notes on Patreon. / 31985005 Some F.A.Qs *It's a Charvel DK24 and it's Purple.
