What is eToro? Is it good for beginners? What's the special aspect of eToro that's made it so popular with new investors so far? I've been using eToro since 2016, attracted by the idea of copy trading, as I knew nothing about the markets and how to go about trading manually. I wanted to get into it, but didn't know how. Copy trading seemed like a safer way in for me. Having said that, I still tried to trade manually, and made some big losses initially whilst using lots of leverage and not knowing what I was doing at all. It's not just me that does this though apparently. Most new retail investors lose their money pretty quickly when they start trying to trade... Since I switched to just copy trading, my risk has come down and it hasn't been the same roller coaster that it was in the beginning, although I still managed to copy some risky people and make losses! Even copy trading hasn't been 'safe' in my experience - trading is inherently risky. But copy trading has levelled out my peaks and troughs and made things less frightening. I haven't 'blown my account' which so many new people do, and copy trading has really given me the chance to start learning about the markets and various different types of assets whilst someone more experienced or focused than me has been making the trading decisions. I still think it's an amazing innovation, and at least for me, it seems to have been a good way to get started in the world of investing and start learning how it all works.
