Now DA polishers, or dual-action polishers, were usually large commercial-looking tools that were pretty intimidating to use and required a bit of skill to use. You could always compound, polish or wax your car by hand. Though this can get a bit tiring at times. The Meguiars DA power system tries to bridge this gap.The Meguiars DA power systems is a polishing head with a handle that attaches to any drill with a ⅜” or larger chuck and gives you the same dual-action polishing capability as a dedicated polisher. And when it comes to drills, you can even attach it to a cordless drill like I did, in case you don’t have a garage or driveway to plug in a corded drill. Meguiars does recommend a corded drill, but if you absolutely can’t use one, I’d recommend this Dewalt DCD 771. I’ll leave a link to this one and a corded drill, in case you need to buy a drill. The head simply attaches to the drill’s chuck like a drill bit. Just don’t mount the head alll the way into the chuck. Leave a bit of space on the chuck to ensure the DA system works. The head has this rubberized handle that gives you a lot of control when using the tool. Polishing, compounding and waxing pads attach to the head using this velcro circle on the bottom. As I mentioned earlier, Meguiars sells three different kinds of pads for the DA system. The base kit comes with a yellow polishing pad, the compounding pads are red, while the waxing pads are black. You can buy the pads separately as packs of two for each application or as power packs with a pad and a small bottle of meguiars, compound, polish and wax. I am going to be testing it on my 2008 Lexus es 350, which from a distance looks decent and doesn’t have a whole lot of swirl marks, but does have a few scratches all round and desperately needs a waxing. So I bought power kits for both compounding and waxing. I am not going to be testing the polishing pad. Before you begin compounding, remember that this compound won’t remove very deep scratches. It will however remove light scratches and swirl marks. So attach the pad to the head. Squeeze on a stripe of ultimate compound on the pad, gently press the pad to the car’s body and let the drill do most of the work. Work on one panel at a time and once you’re done with each panel, wipe the remaining compound off with a microfiber cloth. And as you can see here it took care of most of the light scratches but as expected, the deeper scratches remained. But does seem to have lightened even those scratches out a bit. A tip if you’re using a cordless drill, like I am, make sure to have at least 2-3 charged batteries available to compound one car. You’ll need another two to complete the waxing process.
