Farewell Tornado | End of Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 operations 1979-2019

Today 9 Royal Air Force Tornado GR4s from RAF Marham performed a farewell flypast as the last of the RAF's ageing frontline strike/attack aircraft concludes 40 years of service, and is replaced with the Eurofighter Typhoon, with the last Tornado squadron disbanding in March 2019. The Tornado (Tonka) has served with the RAF since its introduction in 1979, with the force using the GR1, F3 and later updated GR4 variant. As a keen enthusiast living in the NorthEast of England, RAF Tornadoes have been flying over our area for as long as I can remember. I recollect one warm summers days when I was younger, I was out and about roaming the countryside, when the silence was suddenly broken by the roar of the Tornado approaching as they flew over Alnwick Castle heading North, or the days when I'd be catching up with my schoolwork and all of a sudden the house shook and this mass of noise erupted from nowhere, & as I rushed outside only to catch a faint glimpse of the Tornados tail disappearing quickly into the distance at low-level. One of the best opportunities I had to experience ''up-close and personal'' how powerful these machines actually were was during my few days up at RAF Lossiemouth during Exercise Joint Warrior (16.1) in April 2016. It was a truly amazing few days, sortie after sortie of Tornados would go out and return. The sight, sound and smell of them never got old or boring. I and a good mate of mine had been hoping to visit RAF Marham for the last flight of the Tornadoes. Unfortunately, circumstances have prevented us both from doing so. So I hope you enjoy this short compilation of footage from Lossiemouth.
