Materials Testing and Dust

https://www.globalgilson.com/blog/red... Nuisance dust, in particular, silica dust, is a part of everyday handling, processing and testing of construction materials. OHSA standards require lab environments to be “free from recognized health hazards that are causing or are likely to cause … serious physical harm …" and dust is one of the most common occupational health hazards in a materials testing laboratory. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s (NIOSH) Engineering Control Program seeks to protect workers from nuisance dust by removing hazardous conditions or by placing a barrier between the worker and the hazard (https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2019-1... (NIOSH) Publication No. 2019-146). The best method in dust reduction is to use engineering modifications to the dust source itself. Gilson believes that good materials testing equipment design should reflect a high expectation that the unit will perform the task it was built for in accordance with relevant ASTM or AASHTO test specifications. But more importantly, Gilson believes in lab safety and worker protection, when designing materials testing equipment. Sample splitting works best with dry materials and is known for generating large amounts of dust as the divided material flows through the chutes. The Gilson Totally-Enclosed Splitter (SP-10), designed to complete splitting cycle without releasing dust Such as quartz, silica or crystalline particles into the lab. The Gilson Dust Enclosure Kit for the (SP-2.5) Gilson Universal Sample Splitter (0.28ft³ Hopper Capacity) and the (SPA-302) Dust Enclosure for the (SP-3 and SP-33) Universal Mini Splitters have panels that are easy to install and reduce dust during splitting operations. The (SP-6) Gilson Quadri-Splitter, with its totally enclosed design, efficiently divides free-flowing material into four representative fractions in a single pass, while reducing operational dust. Gilson’s Laboratory Split-O-Matic Splitters have welded-steel constructed front panel doors that latch shut for superior dust control during the splitting process of large samples of free-flowing granular materials. The Gilson Silent Testing Screen (TS-4) designed for a more dust free and quieter screening operation with its front doors and top lid that keep noise and dust in check. Test-Master® Testing Screens (TM-5 and TM-6) have a fully enclosed enclosure that helps confine and control airborne dust for a safer and quieter operation. Gilson’s Silent Sifters® are advanced rotary sifters that uses quality sealed cabinetry to virtually eliminate airborne dust and noise during operation. Gilson’s Los Angeles Abrasion Machine is designed to mitigate the dust and high noise levels, by enclosing the sealed, rotating drum within a sound-attenuated sealed cabinet. Gilson offers steel cabinets in a variety of sizes to reduce dust and noise during materials testing operations For more information go to https://www.globalgilson.com/blog/red... construction materials testing / explain different types of material testing / material testing pdf / material testing ppt/ material testing in civil engineering / introduction to material testing / material testing definitions / benefits of material testing / material testing machines / importance of material testing / material testing standards / materials testing new haven ct / physicochemical properties testing / construction materials testing lab / material testing laboratory manual / element failure analysis / mechanical testing labs / element materials technology salary / element materials technology headquarters / material testing wiki / chemical analysis material / astm e595 testing lab uk / tensile testing service / mechanical testing laboratory / material analysis labs
