GoPro Hero 7 Black, Best MTB Settings Test | 4K vs 2.7K

I wanted to try some manual settings for the Hero 7. You'll see on the screen the exact settings that I've used. I was curious to find out if 2.7K might look better for YouTube footage compared to 4K. I recorded all of the 2.7K footage in 4:3. This records at a bit rate of 60Mb, the same as the 4K 30 Superview. I wanted to see if that results in a better looking final image, despite a loss of the resolution. To get the 4:3 footage into a 16:9 frame I used a free app called Elastic Aspect (for Final Cut Pro X). This uses dynamic stretching, similar to what superview achieves, to 'stretch' a portion of the frame out to fill to 4:3 image into a 16:9 image. To try and combat the horrible YouTube compression I output all final video using custom Mac Compressor settings with a bit rate of 60Mbps to match the GoPro bit rate. This created a huge 6GB file for this upload. The thought being that YouTube will compress this but hopefully it wont suffer as many artefacts and pixelations that we are seeing on many GoPro MTB footage. Green foliage, fast moving scenes create a real high data rate and this is where we are seeing lots of compression pixelation and artefacts. I'm hoping that uploading at this bitrate, along with these settings will really reduce the YouTube compression. Watch in Chrome in 4K for the best playback. I've now worked out that in low light HyperSmooth really struggles so the Max ISO needs to be at least 800 in forests that block out the light. As soon as it gets dark HyperSmooth introduces blurring and jittering that you'll notice in the video. All the 4K stuff was Superview, 30 FPS. I did some basic grading in Final Cut Pro to fix the Flat colour profile.
