So we needed a sanctuary, a place to retire to, to recharge our batteries, to escape the madness, bricks and endless dust of this house. So welcome to our bedroom, not much of sanctuary, but we are on a mission to make it our first completed room. What are we dealing with then? We have, cracked walls, floorboards filled with wooodworm, very creepy scratches by the door, actually, no door…, and broken, single glazed windows. *Day 03 1Its our first home, and we have no idea what we are doing, but we love to learn, so we started with the Floorboards. We could carpet over them, but we had the idea to restore them, see if we could breath life back into this wood which is over 200 years old. Cant be that hard can it right? Do I now wish we had just carpeted…. Maybe… But we pulled up the floorboards, and were amazed to find they were stuck down with victorian blacksmith nails, which we have kept a bucket off to one side for a future art project. They had been nailed down for 150 years and they resisted. Some broke worryingly easy… *scene of breaking wood …and even worse… *Woodworm scene and joist worry The very first of what is turning out to be many skeletons in the closet. So we had to learn about joists. We got kitted up scene of suits being put on and We knocked down the ceiling *knocking down ceiling *week 3 We liaised with our builder and we learnt what a noggin is and we installed new joists. *week 4 We purchased a planer, we wanted to see what was underneath the layers of muck on these floorboards. And the grain was soo beautiful, but we also unearthed our next can of worms, Woodworms that is…*Scene reviewing boards It was bad news and we were kind of back to square one, some were ok but a lot of the boards were too damaged to salvage. That was when the mighty wood god came to our rescue. *week 5 A neighbour was actually giving away original floorboards and we snapped them up for free before they could be taken the dump. We did a test of these, and amazingly they were in good enough condition to use, and the grain a very near match as it was from the same age and just as beautiful. We could now mix and match the best of both sets of boards to complete the room. So we got planing and laid down our floorboards ready to secure them. *week 6 We got the rooms skimmed form Clint our plastering hero, and the walls were looking lush again, next up. Windows. Paloma is a classy gal *funny scene and even though we are doing this DIY as cheap as we can, she wants classy windows. Sash windows. We want to restore some of the victorian features to this house with a modern twist, so we changed these horrors into these glassy dreamboats, nice I know right… *week 10 To continue on the victorian restoration theme, we noticed we had a covered up chimney, so we smashed it open. We then found this cast iron victorian bobby dazzler on marketplace for £50. So we snapped it up, and we cleaned it up. And look at that, changes the whole feel of the room right? coving, wainscoating real estate, house tour, UK house, welsh home, #diy #renovation #vlog real estate investing interiorshouse renovationarchitecturedecoratingbefore and afterhome tourhome decorhomesinterior designhouse transformationinterior design tipshouse tour ukhome renovation
