How To Map A Network Drive In Windows 10

In today’s video I’m going to show you how to map a network drive in Windows 10. Mapping a network drive allows you to share access to your hard drive with other people on your network. In today’s example, I’m going to be sharing my network drive with my girlfriend, so she can connect to it, and share files with me. To get started: 1. Go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Advanced sharing settings”, and click on the “Manage advanced sharing settings” search result. 2. When the advanced sharing settings window opens up, make sure the “Network discovery” and “File and printer sharing” options are turned on. 3. Now click on the “Save changes” button. 4. Now for the next step, click on the file explorer icon at the bottom of the windows start bar. 5. The file explorer window will now open. 6. Click on the “This PC” option from the left hand side. 7. You’ll now see all of the hard drives connected to your computer. 8. For today’s example, I’m going to share my local C: drive. 9. Now, right click on the C drive, and select the “Properties“ option from the context menu. 10. A properties dialog window will now display. 11. From this window, click on the “Sharing” tab, and then click on the “Advanced Sharing” button. 12. An advanced sharing dialog window will now open up. 13. Check the “Share this folder” checkbox, and then type in a name for the shared drive. I’m going to type in “Shared family drive”. 14. Now click on the “Apply” and “OK” button. 15. Your computer’s drive is now enabled to share its files with other users on your network. 16. For the next step, I need to find out my computer’s IP address so I can connect to it from another computer on my network. 17. To do that, go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Command Prompt”, and click on the command prompt search result. 18. Once command prompt opens up, type in “ipconfig”, and then hit the enter key on your keyboard. 19. As you can see, my computer’s IP address is now displayed next to the “IPv4 Address” section. Take note of this address, as we’ll need to use it on the other computer we’ll be using to connect to mine. 20. Now, if I open up my girlfriend’s computer, I’m going to go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Run”, and click on the “Run” application. 21. Once run open ups, type in “\\” and then your computer’s IP address, which for me is “192.168.0.8”. 22. Now click on the “OK” button. 23. Your computer will connect to the host computer. 24. Since my computer has a password, I’ll need to enter my username and password. 25. Once you’ve entered your username and password, click on the “OK” button. 26. And as you can see, I now have full access to the shared drive from my computer. And it’s as easy as that, mapping a network drive in Windows 10 is a fairly simple task to perform. #networkdrive #filesharing #windows10
