Why do we let our perceived limitations keep us from making things happen? Sarah Athanas, co-founder of Groundwork!, demonstrates how she and her friends leveraged their limitations to produce a documentary traveling by bicycle, and to start a coworking space that became a community-wide movement. When viewed through the correct lens, the things that hold us back can become the pillars of our strategic plan, and propel us towards making something truly meaningful. Sarah Athanas is a community catalyst, digital storyteller, and the co-founder of Groundwork!, a coworking space in New Bedford, MA. Sarah Athanas was born and raised on Cape Cod and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in studio art and a focus in video production. She has spent a considerable amount of time living and working in South America. In 2010 she directed and produced the documentary Tracking Patagonia after volunteering for a year in the Patagonia region of Chile. She later spent three years in Buenos Aires as the Marketing Director for an international language and travel firm. Upon returning to the United States, Sarah fell in love with the city of New Bedford and decided to start a coworking space there with lifelong friend Dena Haden. Sarah has been a student of Zen Buddhism for 17 years. She enjoys exploring South Coast surf breaks, escaping to the mountains, and engaging in spontaneous conversations at the Groundwork! kitchen counter. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
