연구 저널리스트이자 'a Lifetime of War'의 저자인 히셀다 몰레만스는 그녀의 책에 총 34개의 국가와 도시 및 지역의 최소 500,000명의 '위안부'(1932년부터 1942까지 강제 동원된 일본군 성착취 피해자)에 대한 이야기가 나와있습니다. 이 영상에서 히셀다를 만나 그녀의 책과 어떻게 네덜란드 여성들이 이 일본의 강제 성착취 시스템의 희생자가 되었는지에 대해 이야기를 나눠보았습니다. 한국에 사는 외국인으로서 '위안부'라는 단어를 많이 들었지만, 히셀다의 책을 읽기 전까지 네덜란드의 여성들도 이것의 피해자였다는 걸 전혀 알지 못했어요. 불행하게도 너무 오랜 시간 금기시 되어왔고 너무 많은 가슴 찢어지는 이야기들이 많았습니다. 절대로 잊혀져서는 안되는 이야기들입니다. 한국은 이 문제에서 혼자가 아니라는 것을 알게 되었고, 저희가 이 끔찍한 사건을 절대 잊지 않았으면 좋겠습니다. Griselda Molemans, a research journalist, reveals in her book 'a Lifetime of War' that at least 500,000 'comfort women' (victims of Japanese forced prostitution between 1932 and 1945) represent 34 countries and city-states. In this video I meet Griselda to talk about her book and in particular how women from the (colonies of) the Netherlands became victim of Japanese system of forced prostitution. As a foreigner living in Korea I came across the words 'comfort woman' many times, but never did I know that women from the Netherlands had become victim as well. Until I read Griselda's book. Unfortunately it's been a taboo for a very long time. But the stories are truly sad and heartbreaking. Stories that should have never been ignored. I learned that Korea is not alone in this and together let's try not to forgot this horrible event.
