Making a Pottery Jar from Beginning to End

From beginning to end, (okay, admittedly I’ve skipped a few steps), of how one of my tall lidded jars is created. The parts I’ve skipped are the bisque firing the jar to 1000ºC in my electric kiln prior to waxing and glazing, and then, not captured fully as it’s practically impossible to show in a video like this, is all the hours the pot spends drying how so that it can be trimmed, then the days it takes to turn bone dry and the long hours cooling in the kiln. A pot made in a minute like this never does justice to the time it actually takes to create handmade pottery. It’s a weeks or months long process, and this short video is really just a montage, snapshots from that time. Made using a high-iron stoneware clay body, ES80, coated in a feldspathic crackle glaze and reduction fired to 1290ºC. #pottery #howitsmade #craft #beforeandafter #ceramics #glazing
