NSW Selective Schools vs. Public Schools: Which is Better?

NSW selective schools, which require passing a competitive entrance exam, offer a challenging curriculum and a highly motivated peer group, often resulting in higher HSC rankings and ATARs above 90. In contrast, non-selective public schools accept all students within a catchment area, with academic rigor varying by school. They also can produce students who get an ATAR over 90 however the number is varied. While selective schools are seen to provide a more academic-focused environment, non-selective schools appear to offer greater social diversity and a less competitive atmosphere.
