Lifetime Air Filtration | Quick, Easy, & Cheap Upgrade

Clean air in the shop is a must! And there is a two tiered approach that should be taken to do clean your shop air effectively. First, make sure to have good dust collection at the source. Nothing replaces good dust collection. Second, and what we’ll be discussing in this video, an air filter to get the fine particles from the air. The job of dust collection is to catch both large and fine debris at the source but inevitably some of the fine particles will get into the air and then either into your lungs or to settle on your equipment. An air filter helps with the latter of the two by filtering the fine particles from the air. In addition, if your shop isn’t well sealed like mine and you live on a dusty farm, it will help to keep the shop much cleaner. For this upgrade, I used a washable K&N MERV 11 HVAC filter on the back of a box fan. I wanted a washable filter so I didn’t have to replace filters regularly and I’ve heard excellent things about K&N with all of their other filters so I thought it was worth a shot! K&N’s filter also had a much higher filter rating than the other electrostatic washable filters which is what I was looking for. This solution is also about as cheap as you can get and it’s more effective than some commercial units!
