Morning Report 16 May 24: Friendly inflation figures push Wall St to record highs

US sharemarkets hit all-time highs on Wednesday as bond yields fell after an inflation slowdown reinforced bets the US Federal Reserve will cut interest rates as early as September. Retail sales were unexpectedly flat in April, indicating consumer spending was losing some momentum. Nvidia led a rally in chipmakers, jumping 3.6%. Data centre server company Super Micro Computer soared 15.8%. Technology titans Apple and Microsoft rose between 1.2% and 1.8%. Dell Technologies rallied 11.2% after Morgan Stanley raised its price target on the stock.
