No, buying a suppressor, machine gun, SBR, SBS, AOW, or DD does NOT give the ATF the right to search your home. The only people the ATF visit are FFL's and SOT's. They call them and make an appt to to come in and check their bound books. So if someone told you that its a bad idea to get a silencer as it opens the doors for the ATF they are spouting 110% bad and incorrect information. The current wait times as of (9/6/2012) for a form4 to come back to you is 6 months. This is up from 3 months wait as of last year. The ATF is working with congress and ASA(American silencer association) to get the times down. This is ground breaking as the ATF haven't changed anything since 1934! Its called a SILENCER not a SUPPRESSOR. The inventor and the ATF both call it a silencer. We all know it does not silence the gun but rather suppresses sound, flash, recoil, and enviromental distrubtion(dust signature). EXAMPLE- "Hey Timmy, your silencer does a darn good job of suppressing the sound" NFA (National Firearms Act) was enacted on June 26, 1934. The Act was passed shortly after the repeal of Prohibition. The NFA is also referred to as Title II of the Federal firearms laws. The Gun Control Act of 1968 ("GCA") is Title I.
