A responsibility is a duty (কর্তব্য, যা করা উচিৎ) or an obligation (বাধ্যবাধকতা) TO DO something (কিছু করার) . For example (উদাহরণস্বরুপ), you have the responsibility to attend school and pursue (মনোযোগ দেয়া/ অনুসরণ করা) your studies (পড়াশোনা) properly (সঠিক ভাবে), to take care of (যত্ন নেয়া, দেখা শোনা করা) your parents in their old age, and so on (আরো এরকম অনেক কিছু). Library You also have responsibility to your society (সমাজ) and the government (সরকার), e.g. (উদাহরণ হিসাবে বলা যায়) to help a neighbour (প্রতিবেশি) in trouble (বিপদে/ সমস্যায়) or to cast your vote (ভোট প্রদান করা/ সমর্থন দেয়া) if you are 18 or over (উপরে). A responsibility is also an obligation (বাধ্যবাধকতা) or a duty NOT TO DO something. For example, you have the responsibility not to steal (চুরি করা) a book from a public library or not to pile up (স্তুপ করা) your building materials (নির্মাণ সামগ্রী) on the footpath (ফুটপাত). These (এগুলো) are your responsibilities as citizens (নাগরিক হিসেবে). But there are responsibilities of the government as well (ও). Our government has the responsibility to provide (সরবরাহ করা) for its citizens "the basic necessities of life,(জীবনের মৌলিক প্রয়োজনগুলো) including (সহ) food, clothing (বস্ত্র, পোশাক), shelter (বাসস্থান), education and medical care (চিকিৎসা সেবা) ". The government also has the responsibility to protect (সুরক্ষা করা) the fundamental (মৌলিক) rights (অধিকার) of its citizens which include (অন্তর্ভূক্ত করা) freedom of speech (বাক স্বাধীনতা, কথা বলার স্বাধীনতা) and expression (মত প্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা), freedom of the press (সংবাদপত্রের স্বাধীনতা), freedom of religion (ধর্ম পালনের স্বাধীনতা), equality of all before law (আইনের দৃষ্টিতে সমতা) etc. The knowledge (জ্ঞান), skills (দক্ষতা) and attitudes (মনোভাব) you have gained (অর্জন করা) at home, at school and in society will help you to be aware (সচেতন হওয়া) of your responsibilities and to carry them out (পালন করা) effectively (কার্যকরীভাবে) .
