First trip down to the sheep farms for 2025 to sort out some livestock killers. I'm here for a couple of nights this week on a pre-lambing fox contract. Lambs should start hitting the ground as early as April so thinning the resident foxes out is a critical component to increasing lamb survival rates. The plan is to cover as much ground as possible over the next 2 nights therefore most of my shooting will vehicle based. Driving around the well groomed tracks and laneways, scanning with the roof mounted thermal. Rifle for this job is my Sako .223, shooting ADI 55gr Sierra Blitz Kings and on scope duties is the HikMicro Stellar SX60 1280 thermal. Night 1 will be on an 8000 acre sheep farm and I'll spend night 2 on a smaller sheep farm about 30 minutes drive away that also run commercial layer chickens. A quick reccy of the properties before night fall, then it's time to hook in and go till the sun comes up. You've got to put in the hours if you want to get the results. After 2 long nights chasing these livestock killers, the final tally came to 43. The first trip of many for this season, I'll be back down again the week before lambing to do it all again.
