Mist Falls Trail | Best Hike in Kings Canyon National Park | Near Fresno, California

On our recent trip to California we visited Kings Canyon National Park, just a little over an hour drive from Fresno. Out of Fresno, we took highway 180 to the Big Stump park entrance, where the road becomes the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway. The byway terminates at the “Road’s End” parking area. This is where you find the trailhead for the Mist Falls, one of the most beautiful and popular hikes in the park. The road partially follows the Kings River and terminates at 5,000 feet in elevation. There are restrooms and a water fountain at the trailhead. You should indeed fill up as the 9 mile hike can have plenty of sun exposure as you gain an additional 800 feet of elevation. While my personal favorite parts of the hike are the inspiring views of the canyon, the Mist Falls are also of special note as they display the awesome power of the Kings River as it drops 100 feet over steep granite rocks.
