“A younger me needed to climb every mountain. The older me says they photograph better from the bottom.” The final leg of our legendary Red Centre Way road-trip (300kms) was to uncover the raw beauty of Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park. We left Ayers Rock Campground and followed the Lasseter Highway to the junction at Luritja Road, for a quick pic, and then on to a quiet free camp for an overnight stay. We got up early next morning to tackle the 3-4hr Kings Canyon Rim Walk, a 6km circuit up and around the canyon walls. With a steep stair climb at the start, the rest of the trail was pretty easy. The spectacular red sandstone walls of the canyon soar over 100 metres above pockets of dense forest including ferns and rare cycads … the views from the top took our breath away. Kings Canyon is amazing and if you do nothing else when you visit, make sure do the Rim Walk. Time to hit the road! Michelle & Michael – The travel addicts
