Part 1 of our Ikea Kitchen remodel takes a behind the scenes look at our kitchen renovation, beginning with the PLAN (because you need a plan). I briefly show you the online Ikea kitchen planner, which helped us greatly in designing our kitchen. I share how we chose various big ticket materials such as flooring, backsplash tile, wall paint color and countertop material. You will see how we - just the two of us - completely demolished our large existing kitchen including the granite countertops. You will see how the company we hired demolished our existing tile flooring. We are a retired couple in our mid 60s and mid 70s and we did most of the work ourselves, save for the tile demolition. Part 2 will dive into removing sheetrock, installing hardie backer board, assembling Ikea Sektion cabinets and installing them, and building pony walls both for the free standing island as well as for the cabinet which supports our large 60 gallon fish aquarium.
