The Photographic Universe II brings together a range of leading practitioners, scientists, theoreticians, historians, and philosophers to consider and reflect on current discussions in photography at a pivotal moment in its history. The unique format of the conference will consist of one-on-one conversations between two individuals from disparate professional and research backgrounds. Jeanine Oleson is an artist whose practice incorporates interdisciplinary uses of performance, film/video, installation, and photographic work, often collaboratively. She attended the School of the Art institute of Chicago, Rutgers University, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been recently published in Performa: New Visual Art Performance, DAP 2007, Documenta Magazine, No. 2, LIFE!, 2007, and LTTR V: Positively Nasty, 2006. Oleson is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design. Allen Frame lives in New York where he teaches photography at the School of Visual Arts, Pratt Institute, and the International Center of Photography. He has also taught photography workshops in Mexico and Russia. His book Detour, a compilation of his photographs over a decade, was published by Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg in 2001. Recently, his work has been included in exhibitions at the Baltimore Museum of Art , the Fotomuseum in Winterthur, Switzerland, the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Mississippi, and as part of the 2009 Festival of Photography and Video in Korea. A native of Los Angeles California, Song Tae Chong has been based in New York for the past 15 years. A Doctoral Candidate and Adjunct Instructor in the department of Media, Culture and Communication at NYU, Song has focused her research on the role of family photography within the photographic discourse of trauma and crisis. She is the Workshop Director for Magnum Photos New York and is currently the curator of the Milk Gallery in New York. Her photographic interests are in family photography and reportage. She holds an MA in the Arts and Humanities, from NYU. Becca Albee, born in Portland, Maine, lives and works in New York. Her photo-based work, often resulting in or combining installation, sculpture, video, sound, and/or small printed editions, has appeared in exhibitions, screenings, and publications nationally and internationally, most recently at P·P·O·W, New York; Lump Gallery/Projects, Raleigh; and North Drive Press. She has attended residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. She is currently a visiting artist at New York University's Steinhardt School. Albee is an associate professor of photography and digital media at the City College of New York.
