Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler says a youth curfew in Alice Springs could be extended beyond the end of the school holidays. “One of the first steps is to look at possibly extending it for those days over the school holidays,” Ms Lawler said. The curfew means anyone under the age of 18 is not allowed on the streets of the CBD of Alice Springs between 6 pm and 6 am. The curfew comes after violence erupted in Alice Springs with hundreds of people involved in riotous behaviour, which left buildings and cars damaged and forced workers to barricade themselves inside. Some groups have flagged the possibility of a legal challenge to the government’s decision, but the Chief Minister said she’s not phased.
