Hu and Medvedev shaking hands STORYLINE: The leaders of China and Russia signed a joint statement on Monday to comprehensively deepen their strategic partnership of cooperation. The joint statement was signed by China's President Hu Jintao and Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev following talks in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing. Besides the joint statements, the two sides also signed an agreement on the fight against separatism and extremism along with commercial deals covering coal, nuclear energy and banking. Companies from the two countries also signed a series of agreements on trade and economic cooperation, including the supply of crude oil from Russia to China through a newly completed pipe line. Following the signing, Hu told a joint news conference: "Both sides have praised highly the completion of the China-Russian crude oil pipe line.
