I was extremely excited when this pedal was released last year - not because I'm a fan of the original Syntax Error - but because Alexander seemed to finally be moving away from the harsh-sounding, Spin FV-1 chip that I despise so much! The Syntax Error 2 is the first pedal in Alexander's new 'Venture Series', which has the far more powerful, Spin FXcore chip at its heart....unfortunately, the quality of the pitch-shifting in this pedal produces the same, wince-inducing sounds as the FV-1, leading me to believe that Alexander have carried over the same algorithms from the older pedals, rather than updating/rewriting the code for the newer chip. I really want to experience an Alexander pedal that doesn't use pitch-shifting, such as their delay and reverb pedals, as I'm sure I'd like those a lot better!
