Lesson Title: GCSE Physics 9-1: Static Electricity Lesson Objectives: To be able to explain the concept of static electricity. To be able to identify why some objects become positively or negatively charged in terms of the transfer of electrons. To be able to explain how a balloon can stick to a wall using static electricity. To be able to explain how static electricity can result in electrical discharge e.g. lightning. To be able to explain how static electricity can be used to pain cars Description: In this video I outline how static electricity can be built up by rubbing two insulating materials together. Electrons are transferred from one object to another and the object which gains electrons becomes negatively charges and the one which loses electrons becomes positively charged. I then move on to explaining how a balloon can use static electricity to stick to a wall, look carefully at how the charges behave. We then look at how static electricity can result in electrical discharge and the Physics behind lightning strikes. And finally I explain one use of static electricity in the spray painting of cars.
