Vintage Bicycle Horn Electronic Hobby Soldering Kit Repair - Electroni-Kit Chip Shop Kit 12a

This is a vintage electronic hobby kit, by Electroni-Kit. Chip Shop Kit 12: Bicycle Horn plus Electronic Shocker. In this video I assemble the Bicycle Horn project. Chip Shop Kit 6 (Light Operated Burglar Alarm):    • Retro Light Operated Burglar Alarm - ...   The Bicycle Horn project is powered by a PP3 9V battery and uses a two transistor circuit in the form of a multivibrator to produce the tone. When the button is pressed, the sound can be heard through the loudspeaker. Included instruction sheet, including schematic, PCB layout, component list, and principle of operation: https://jsonj.co.uk/project/electroni... The Chip Shop Kits were released in 1981, announced in the April 1981 editions of Hobby Electronics (pg 56) and Everyday Electronics (pg 262). Chip Shop Kits were available both in retail stores and by mail order, direct from Electroni-Kit, for between £3 and £5, plus 50p postage. This kit had an advertised price of £4, equivalent to £14.99 today. Hobby Electronics, April 1981 (pg 56): https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Hobb... Everyday Electronics, April 1981 (pg 262): https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Ever... A full-page article about the range was published in the July 1981 edition of Everyday Electronics where they reviewed kit No. 16, the American Police Siren (pg 494). https://www.worldradiohistory.com/UK/... The initial range included 20 kits, but was later expanded to at least 24 kits total. Some kits contained multiple projects, while others provided essential tools such as the Soldering Iron (Kit 2). Electroni-Kit was the UK distributor for the Denshi Block and Gakken companies, which is what first brought these kits to my attention. Gakken EX-150 Denshi Block Kit (distributed by Electroni-Kit in the UK):    • Denshi-Gakken Electroni-Kit EX-System...   Gakken Adult Science Electronic Block Mini (Japanese Import):    • Electronic Block Mini - Gakken Adult ...   This kit is one of three I recently acquired on eBay, all assembled but non-functional, with various broken wires and cold joins. The kit was stripped back to individual parts, each component was individually tested, and the PCB cleaned ready for repair and reassembly. The video shows the complete assembly, in mostly real-time. While some particularly long sections have been sped up, there are no cuts and the video is complete -- warts and all.
