The long barrel 1873 in 38/357 has so much going for it. This new Winchester is superbly made. It is actually better made than my grade 2 '73. The long barrel makes it very quiet, easier to shoot at distance and still easily packable all the while carrying 13 rounds. It's no wonder this length barrel was the most popular originally. Low cost bulk 38 ran flawlessly and 357's recoil was hardly noticeable. The '73 action especially with 38 special is really fast. Other than a semi auto it is the fastest rifle I've fired. This all resulted me carrying and shooting the rifle at every chance I had. It is my favorite old west gun. I got mine on sale but honestly at this point I'd get one regardless.
