Static Charge - GCSE Physics

🦊 In this GCSE Physics video, we explain that a static charge is the accumulation of charge on the surface of an object, resulting from an excess of electrons, which makes the surface negatively charged. This charge can build up through processes like rubbing insulators together, such as a Perspex rod with cloth or a balloon with hair, leading to the transfer of electrons between objects. The object gaining electrons becomes negatively charged, while the object losing electrons becomes positively charged, and it's important to understand that the process involves electron transfer, although specific directions of transfer may not need to be memorized for exams. 👋 Hi, we’re Launchpad Learning.
