The Lowcountry Chapter of the American Harp Society presents a Virtual Celebration Concert in Honor of Ruth Wickersham Papalia. The annual Ruth Wickersham Papalia Scholarship Award is open to upper division harp performance majors enrolled in an accredited conservatory or school of music in the United States of America. This tuition award will be disbursed from the American Harp Society, Inc., directly to the educational institution where the awardee is enrolled. The annual application deadline is February 15th. For more information: https://harpsociety.org/competitionsa... In 2008 the AHS presented Ruth Wickersham Papalia with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Over her many years with the AHS, Ruth served as Chairman of the Board, Secretary, and Treasurer at the national level. Locally, Ruth co-founded the Central New York Chapter. Ruth began harp lessons at age 9 using her older sister Esther’s harp. She received her degree from the Oberlin Conservatory, and durring the summers she studied with Carlos Salzedo at his harp colony at Camden, Maine. She toured the United States and Canada in the 1950s with The Angelaires, a quintet of professional harpists under the management of Columbia Artists. Ruth performed for 40 years with the College Community Orchestra at State University of New York in Cortland, NY.
