Sultanahmet’in modern mağazalarının altında gizli kalmış Nakkaş Sarnıcı, Cağaloğlu’nun kalbinde Şerefiye Sarnıcı ve Eresin Otel’in içinde bulunan sarnıç kalıntıları ise bu gizemli yapıların çok daha az duyulmuşları. Of the 400-500 cisterns built during the Byzantine Empire, only 160 have been discovered today. The most visited Basilica Cistern and the blooming Binbirdirek Cistern are the well-known cisterns that served the Byzantine Palace. The Nakkaş Cistern, hidden under the modern shops of Sultanahmet, the Şerefiye Cistern in the heart of Cağaloğlu and the remains of the cistern inside the Eresin Hotel are much less heard of these mysterious structures.
