Like any passer-by, the pedestrian in these pictures assumed this shopper shuffling along the street with a baby's pram was a Muslim mother dressed in a burka. But once he had walked on by, the customer stopped outside a jewellery store - and dramatically unmasked himself as an armed robber who was using the Islamic clothing and the pram as a disguise to bluff his way inside. As staff unlocked the security door to the gems shop in Rusholme, Manchester, the robber used the pram which was in fact empty to block the door open and demanded cash. He then produced an axe from underneath his burka and smashed up glass cabinets storing a hoard of jewellery whilst three accomplices one clutching a sledgehammer and the other a sword burst in after him. Staff reeled in terror as the robbery gang ran rampant inside Choice Jewellers - even looting gems after the manager triggered an in-store booby trap device which filled the shop floor with dry ice. The gang fled but the robber in a burka continued his battle to get more loot smashing the front window of the store wit his axe. The gang eventually fled in a waiting black Audi-type car. Today/yesterday(mon) shocking footage of the raid was issued by Greater Manchester Police as detectives appealed for help to find the robbers. Det Con Ian Wrench, said: "The men who carried out this frightening robbery need to be caught so I would ask anyone who saw the men either going in or out of the shop to please call us. "I would ask that anyone with information, no matter how trivial it might seem, call us as it could be vital to finding these men." Police said the raid occurred shortly before 11.35am on Sunday 1 July 2012 when a person dressed in a burka approached the jewellery shop with a baby's pram. The robber pressed the door bell and was allowed in but he blocked the door with the pram and took out an axe. The getaway car pulled up outside the shop and three men got out - one of them was holding a sledgehammer and another a sword. They went into the shop and smashed the glass cabinets where the jewellery was stored. The offenders ran out of the shop with a large quantity of jewellery. They smashed the front shop window to grabbed more Jewellery and drove off down Walmer Street. Det Con Wrench added: "The jewellery stolen is worth quite a lot of money, and the robbers may try to sell it on the black market. "I would urge anyone who is offered Jewellery from anyone other than a licensed dealer to not fall victim by buying these stolen goods and call us immediately. The first offender is described as a tall person wearing a burka. The three offenders who got out of the car were all dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered by balaclavas.
