Harmonic Variations On Renge Mahur 2 of DarvishKhan by Homayoon Beigi

This is composition explores different harmonic variations around one of the classic Persian Dance compositions by Gholamhossein Darvish (aka Darvish Khan). I have kept the base melody and have created different types of harmonic variations, using concepts such as Counterpoint, Polyrhythm, Polyphony, and other harmonic concepts, but adapted to work with Persian Quarter Tones (microtonal harmony). I have tried hard not to simply copy western harmony, but to use concepts from western classical harmony to complement the rich melody of Persian Classical repertoire. This is one of many harmonic variations that I have explored and will be exploring around the beautiful and rich Persian Classical Repertoire, as well as the basic Gushehs in the Persian Dastgah system which has been organized into a series of modes, collectively known as the Radif (i.e., Educational Repertoire of organized modal progressions in the Persian Dastgah system). The rendition you hear is only la synthesized sound and is not even close to what it should sound like with the sound of the Persian Tar. The Clarinet and Cello may not be so bad, but the Tar part, due to the lack of proper sound fonts, has been rendered as the treble clef of Piano! We, the Noavaran Ensemble, will be attempting a proper recording and it will be made available in the future. I have not yet written the percussion part of this quartet.
