Why I became a Midwife... I am a Licensed Midwife in the state of Louisiana and a Certified Professional Midwife. I have experience in home birth, birth center and busy OBGYN clinical settings. Being a midwife is a calling! I pursued midwifery passionately, despite having a breastfeeding baby on my hip...despite being told I was probably "too young" or "it would never happen". But, with the help of two dedicated preceptors, I was able to become a midwife at 26 years old. I've known I wanted to work in birth since I was a child. At 16 years old, I decided to pursue midwifery instead of obstetrics. In college, I abruptly switched from the Certified-Nurse Midwife route to the Certified Professional/Licensed Midwife route. I obtained my training and national certification through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Throughout history, midwives have been the expert in healthy pregnancy and normal birth. Midwives are specifically experts in natural birth. Our care is client-centered, and we serve healthy low-risk women and their babies.
