Various of International Red Cross car leaving STORYLINE: Seven Afghan men on Saturday arrived in their home country, weary, angry and proclaiming their innocence, after years of imprisonment in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The men appeared at a news conference beside Sibghatullah Mujaddedi, head of Afghanistan's reconciliation commission, which assists with the release of detainees from Guantanamo and the US prison at the Bagram military base north of Kabul. All seven said they were wrongly arrested. In interviews with The Associated Press, one claimed he was forced to join the Taliban, while another said he was arrested merely for being Muslim. "We want all Afghan detainees to be transferred back home and spend their detention period in Afghanistan," said Mohammad Alif, one of the released Afghani detainees. "There is no need to keep them in Guantanamo," he added. Meanwhile Hafizullah Khan, another released Afghani detainee, said he wanted the Afghan government to investigate his case. "If I was in the Taliban, I will accept any kind of punishment otherwise if I am innocent, then the government should compensate me," he said. Commission official Mohammad Akram said 47 Afghan prisoners have been released from Guantanamo since 2004. "There are some Afghans still in American detention, the negotiations are going on to bring them home soon and American authorities have been convinced to hand them over," Akram said.
