You’ll hear about Media Access Control (MAC) Addresses and how to get the attention of an entire network. This involves core concepts such as a frame of data and how devices “listen” to the network. To appreciate what a broadcast is, you need to understand what it takes to get a computer’s attention. There’s a specific kind of information you could send to a computer that will cause it to react in a certain way. This involves a frame of data, which is a collection of bits sent from the router into the switch and then from the switch to a PC. Inside the frame of data is something called the “destination address,” which is customized to the device you want to gain the attention of. All other devices on your network, such as a laptop or printer, will see that it doesn’t apply to them and ignore it.
