Growing garlic in a plastic bottle at home is an easy and space-efficient way to cultivate your own supply. Here's a step-by-step guide: Materials Needed: Large plastic bottle (2-5 liters, clear and clean) Garlic cloves (preferably organic or untreated for sprouting) Potting soil (well-draining) Knife or scissors Water Organic fertilizer Steps: - - - - - - -- - -- - -- #Prepare the Plastic Bottle *Cut the top off the plastic bottle, leaving enough height to hold soil. *Make small drainage holes at the bottom to prevent waterlogging. *Optionally, cut a few small holes along the sides if you want to plant garlic in a vertical tower style. #Select Garlic Cloves *Choose healthy, large cloves from a garlic bulb. *Peel off the outer layer of skin but leave the individual clove intact. #Sprout the Garlic (Optional) *Soak the cloves in water for a few hours to encourage sprouting. *You can also place them in a damp paper towel for 1-2 days until roots appear. #Fill the Bottle with Soil *Add potting soil to the bottle, filling it about 3/4 full. *Ensure the soil is loose and aerated to promote root growth. #Plant the Garlic Cloves *Push each clove into the soil, pointed side up, about 2 inches deep. *Space the cloves evenly (or place them near the holes if using a vertical method). #Water and Place *Water the soil lightly, ensuring it's moist but not soggy. *Place the bottle in a sunny location, such as a windowsill or balcony, as garlic needs 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. #Care for the Garlic *Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not oversaturated. *Add a diluted liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks for better growth. #Harvesting *Green shoots (garlic scapes) will appear in 1-2 weeks. You can trim and use these for cooking while the bulb continues to grow. *Full garlic bulbs will be ready to harvest in about 3-4 months, when the leaves turn yellow and dry. #Tips *Use a transparent plastic bottle to observe root development and adjust watering as needed. *Rotate the bottle occasionally to ensure even sunlight exposure. *Avoid overwatering, as garlic dislikes soggy soil. *This method is a simple way to grow garlic at home while recycling materials!
