Over two thousand years ago, the birth of a child changed the course of human history. At that time, a young woman named Mary was betrothed to Joseph but had not yet married him. One day, an angel appeared to Mary and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was greatly troubled by his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. He will reign forever, and His kingdom will never end." Mary was filled with fear, knowing that if she became pregnant before marriage, she would face public criticism and even the possibility of being stoned to death under the law of that time. Feeling fearful, helpless, and doubtful, Mary asked the angel, "How will this be, since I am a virgin?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." After a moment of reflection, Mary replied, "I am the Lord's servant. May your word to me be fulfilled." And so, Mary chose to submit to God. Even though she knew she might face immense challenges beyond human understanding, she came before God in prayer, saying, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. The Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is His name." Mary faced an impossible message from the angel, something beyond human comprehension. Yet, she chose to believe with simple faith. Even though it was a path she had never walked before, she chose obedience despite not fully understanding. In the face of difficult decisions, she did not give up, run away, or refuse. Instead, she steadfastly held onto her faith. In life, when we encounter moments of uncertainty, darkness, and confusion, or when we stand at crossroads feeling helpless, how do we respond? May we choose to believe with unwavering faith and submit to God's guidance.
