Phrygian Escape: Ableton Push 2 - Live Performance with the Phrygian Dominant Scale

As his tired eyes took in the millions of dancing sequins of light and shade, he realised: he had escaped." Hello everyone. For this video/track I decided to go a little (just a little) out of my comfort zone and explore the Phrygian (Count the consonants!) Dominant scale, one which we can access via Push's Scale menu. It's the same as a Phrygian scale (which is like a natural minor with a diminished second - moving down one semitone) but here the third is augmented (i.e. moving up one semitone), meaning that the third is like that in a major scale. The impact of this is to immediately transport me to a world that sounds to my ears Mediterranean and ancient, somehow. I start the track in Dorian, and when I get to the improvised melody I (somewhat clumsily) change to Phrygian Dominant. I wrote the text above this paragraph because I'm trying let me mind fly, even during lockdown, and imagine scenes and moments I haven't lived, with music as the glue between them and myself.
