Applying for a post graduation work permit within Canada

In this video, Stefanie takes Waterloo students through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) online, in-Canada, post-graduation work permit application process. To learn more about the Student Success Office's services for international students, register for a workshop or to book a consulting appointment, visit: https://uwaterloo.ca/student-success/... Important update: As said in this video, official transcripts are now required for this application. You will be asked the question “Do you have an official letter from your school that confirms you’ve completed your study program, as well as a copy of your final transcript?” in your questionnaire. After visiting the Student Service Centre links, you will see the official proof of enrolment letter can now be issued to you by email (you still can’t use the free letter on Quest) and official transcript can be issued to you through MyCreds online. Important update: From December 3, 2019 to July 15, 2020, anyone applying for this permit from within Canada needed to give biometrics if they had not given them already within the last 10 years. On July 16, 2020, IRCC announced a biometrics exemption for this application due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, there is nothing you need to do if you receive the Biometrics Instruction Letter. There is still an additional question in the eligibility questionnaire that asks, "In the past 10 years, have you given your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) for an application to come to Canada?" Be sure to answer this honestly and correctly. If you’re unsure, you can use the Check Status tool to find out if your biometrics are still valid. If you have not given biometrics before, you can pay the additional $85 biometrics fee and it will be refunded to you when the immigration officer processes your application. Please note: This video is regularly reviewed for accuracy and was last checked April 1, 2022. Immigration consulting is a free service provided by the Student Success Office for current University of Waterloo students. All of our consultants are Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants who are licensed with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC). The immigration consultants do not submit applications, but can meet with students for a consultation. The Government of Canada website, regulations, application requirements and forms can change without notice. It is the viewer’s responsibility as the applicant to monitor expiry dates and understand their current documents, to answer the application questions accurately as they relate to their individual circumstances, and to submit a complete and correct application. This video is for educational purposes only and does not equate to or establish legal counsel. Application approval is determined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is not guaranteed by the University of Waterloo. If you have any concerns about your application as a Waterloo student, please consult with one of our Immigration Consultants.
