Lesson on Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Diagnosis and Treatment. In this lesson, you will learn the epidemiology of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), how to easily diagnose it using the DSM-5, and what the treatment options are for GAD. GAD is a chronic condition whereby individuals experience anxiety and worry regarding various aspects of their lives, occurring more days than not for at least 6 months. There are 6 possible somatic symptoms of GAD that co-occur and at least 3 of these are required to make a diagnosis of GAD. GAD treatment includes lifestyle modification, psychological interventions and treatments with SSRIs or SNRIs.
