In this video series on how to start urban sketching for beginners, I am sketching an arch in a park with just one pen in ten minutes. Focusing on just using one pen and one sketchbook, we’re dialing down to the basics and remove all confusions of colour, medium, etc. This is a common scene for Hong Kong urban sketchers, and I’m glad I could take you along with me! We start sketching in with the big shapes, before coming in with some detail and hatching. The sketch is done with a fountain pen with waterproof ink, but you can do it with anything. I do recommend not using a pencil, so you won’t be tempted to erase your mistakes. Now go out and grab your sketchbooks!
